Work and Residence Permit

Whether you need a residence and work permit depends on how long you will be working in Switzerland.

If your stay in Switzerland exceeds 3 months, you will need a valid work and/or residence permit. For citizens of EU-25*/EFTA states, there is a simplified procedure. You can apply for the work and residence permit directly at the residents' services of your community within 14 days after arrival and before starting work. Required documents include a valid identity card (or passport) and a written employment declaration from the employer (e.g., the employment contract with the stated duration of employment). For more information, visit www.bfm.admin.ch.

Citizens from Bulgaria, Croatia, and Romania are still subject to admission restrictions. More information can be found at www.bfm.admin.ch under Topics > Free movement of persons Switzerland - EU/EFTA
